Kids on the Move for Success hosts Community Day 2025

On August 2, 2025, the Exchange Park Recreation Center in Decatur was filled with energy, excitement, and connection as families, educators, and community leaders came together for Community Day 2025. Hosted by Kids on the Move for Success, this free family-friendly event was a living example of how community partnerships can spark learning, wellness, and joy.

A Day Full of Learning and Fun

From the moment guests arrived, they were met with opportunities to learn, engage, and celebrate. The day’s activities highlighted the five core themes of the event: Literacy, STEAM, Health & Wellness, Parent Engagement, and Senior Services.

Attendees enjoyed:

  • STEAM demos and hands-on youth activities that made science and technology come alive

  • Live performances from Mary McLeod Bethune Middle School’s band and dance team, showcasing the power of the arts

  • Community resources ranging from financial literacy and parenting tips to health and wellness information

  • Family fun including flag football, splash pad activities, free haircuts, raffles, and giveaways

  • Local flavor from food trucks and vendor booths featuring small businesses and service providers

Building Connections That Matter

One of the day’s highlights was the spirit of togetherness. Families connected with community banks, nonprofits, and service organizations. Seniors found resources tailored to their needs, while students explored new ways to think about their futures through interactive STEAM stations.

Ten students even received scholarships to attend the Knowledge is Powerful in Literacy after-school program, a reminder that events like these don’t just entertain, they open real doors to opportunity.

Powered by Community

This day was made possible thanks to the collaboration of local sponsors and partners including Chick-fil-A, Lakeshore Learning, Start With Me, Community in Focus, and many more. Their commitment to uplifting families made Community Day 2025 a meaningful success.

Looking Ahead

Community Day reminded us that literacy, wellness, and creativity are the foundation of thriving families and resilient neighborhoods. As we look ahead, we’re excited to see how the connections sparked on this day will grow into even more opportunities for impact across our communities.
